EMDR Consultation for Clinicians | Build Confidence After Training

Two EMDR Consultation Opportunities

Many clinicians complete EMDR Basic Training feeling excited, inspired, and ready to begin integrating EMDR into their practice.

Then reality happens.

Clients present with complex histories. Memories don’t cluster as neatly as they did in training. Processing gets blocked. Dissociation appears. Targets become difficult to identify. Treatment plans start to feel overwhelming.

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “I learned this in training, but I’m not sure what to do with this particular client,” you’re not alone.

One of the most common experiences I see among clinicians after EMDR Basic Training is the gap between understanding the EMDR protocol and applying it confidently in real-world clinical practice.

This is where EMDR consultation becomes invaluable.

Consultation is not about having all the answers. It’s about having a place to think through cases, strengthen clinical reasoning, and continue developing your confidence as an EMDR therapist.

Group Consultation Opportunity #1: Lunch & Learn Series

The EMDR Lunch & Learn Series Group was created for clinicians who want practical tools they can begin using with clients immediately. This one-hour group will meet once a month for three consecutive months. Over the three months, I will provide an introduction to three foundational concepts from the House Within Conceptual Framework:

#1 House Within Nervous System Assessment (July 2026 Group)

Many clinicians are taught to identify symptoms. Fewer are taught how to organize those symptoms through a nervous system lens.

In this group consultation, we will discuss how the House Within Nervous System Assessment can help clinicians understand whether a client is primarily operating from mobilization, shutdown, or regulation.  This assessment can help guide treatment planning, preparation, and the selection of interventions.

#2  House Within Levels of Readiness (August 2026 Group)

One of the most important questions in EMDR therapy is not “Can this client do EMDR?” The question is: “How ready is this client for trauma processing right now?”

Readiness is not an all-or-nothing concept. We will touch on how the House Within Level of Readiness can assist in assessing a client’s capacity for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and recovery, and identify any additional preparation needed before reprocessing begins.

#3 House Within Clustering (September 2026 Group)

Many clients arrive with multiple symptoms, concerns, and targets.

  • Anxiety
  • Relationship struggles.
  • People-pleasing.
  • Perfectionism.
  • Shame.
  • Trauma.

Rather than treating each issue separately, clinicians can learn to identify the underlying themes and memory networks connecting them.

Clustering helps organize complex clinical presentations into a coherent treatment plan and often leads to more efficient target selection.

Group Consultation Opportunity #2:  EMDR Drop-In Consultation Group

Not every clinician is looking for a long-term consultation commitment. Sometimes you simply want a place to ask questions, discuss a case, or receive support from other EMDR clinicians. The EMDR Drop-In Consultation Group was designed for exactly that purpose.

This group provides an opportunity to:

  • Discuss challenging cases
  • Strengthen treatment planning skills
  • Explore target selection questions
  • Increase confidence with EMDR protocols
  • Connect with other clinicians using EMDR

Whether you are newly trained or have years of experience, consultation can help you continue growing as a clinician.

A Special Offer for Recent EMDR Graduates

Many clinicians benefit from additional support during the first year after training as they begin applying EMDR in practice.

If you completed an EMDRIA-approved Basic Training within the past year, your first EMDR Drop-In Consultation Group is free. Simply email me and request your code. This offer is valid now through December 31, 2026.

Continued Learning Happens in Community

Clinical growth does not happen in isolation. It happens through curiosity, reflection, collaboration, and the willingness to keep learning.

Whether you’re looking for practical tools, deeper case-conceptualization skills, or a supportive place to discuss cases, consultation can provide the structure and community that help bridge the gap between training and confidence.

I would love to have you join us.

The House Within

Welcome to The House Within

We each have an inner home shaped by our experiences, memories, and physical responses. I refer to this asย The House Within. This metaphor helps us understand self-perception, resilience, and personal growth.

Like a physical house, our inner house has foundations, structures, and rooms that represent different aspects of ourselves. Some areas may feel safe, while others may be neglected or closed off. Trauma, stress, and disconnection can disrupt this structure, but repair is possible. Healing starts with compassion and curiosity. Together, we can explore how each part supports rebuilding from within.

The Foundation: Safety and Connection

A strong foundation provides stability and support. In therapy, we build this foundation through safety, trust, and connection. Once established, we can address the next layer: the structure formed by our life stories and patterns.

The Structure: Our Story and Survival Patterns

The walls, doors, and windows of a home guide how energy and emotion move. In the same way, our inner world shows our personal stories, ways we connect with others, and how we protect ourselves.

Through EMDR therapy, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, we identify areas within our inner home that hold unresolved pain or need attention. EMDR helps clients process and integrate distressing memories. During a session, clients may engage in guided eye movements while recalling difficult experiences, reducing the emotional impact of these memories. By revisiting these places safely, we can move from coping to greater stability, allowing us to address our feelings, beliefs, and memories more effectively.

The Interior: Feelings, Beliefs, and Memory Networks

The inside of our house shows our culture, identity, feelings, beliefs, and memories from our senses. EMDR helps healing by working through painful memories, so they become part of a healthier story.
Over time, we cultivate self-kindness, self-trust, and honesty. As our inner world balances, we experience personal growth and increased awareness.

The Light: Awareness and Growth

As healing progresses, a sense of peace, confidence, and connection may be experienced. These changes shift us toward living from a place of safety rather than from a place of danger and survival.

The light in our house represents clarity and choice. It enables us to navigate our inner world with confidence and trust, even in challenging situations. Recognizing this light is essential for ongoing healing.

Why This Metaphor Matters

The House Within offers therapists and clients a practical and easy-to-understand framework for mind-body healing. It reminds us that:

  • You are not broken. Your home is still under construction.
  • Each part of your story has a purpose.
  • With support, safety, and time, even the deepest cracks in your home can be repaired.

This model brings together attachment theory, body-based therapies, and brain science to enhance EMDR therapy. Unlike other therapeutic approaches that focus on just one part of healing, The House Within considers the whole person.

Closing Reflection

Take a moment to reflect on your own inner house.
What does it look like today?
Which areas of your house feel vibrant, and which are still in need of attention?

Healing involves recognizing that you are both the architect and caretaker of your inner home.

Bridging the Gap from EMDR Basic Trained to Confidence

Introducing The House Within Model for EMDR Consultation Series

Feeling uncertain about how to integrate EMDR into your practice?

Many clinicians leave EMDR Basic Training feeling both inspired and a little uncertain. You might understand the theory and the eight phases, but applying them with real clientsโ€”especially those with complex trauma โ€”can seem overwhelming.

The period between basic training and gaining confidence is when you truly grow. The House Within Model EMDR Consultation Series is here to help you strengthen your skills and move past uncertainty.

Letโ€™s explore what sets The House Within Model apart.

The House Within Model is a conceptual framework that builds on EMDR’s Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and integrates polyvagal theory, attachment theory, and somatic approaches to enhance EMDR outcomes in a clear, easy-to-digest way.

About the Consultation Series

The House Within EMDR Consultation Series is a small consultation group designed to bridge the gap between being an EMDR-basic-trained clinician and becoming a confident EMDR practitioner. This program is open to clinicians who have completed EMDR Basic Training and want to deepen their knowledge, strengthen the skills learned in training, and feel more confident integrating EMDR into their clinical work.

What to Expect

  • Support through small consultation groups (up to 6 participants)
  • Opportunities to work in dyads to put your learning into practice
  • Space to ask questions and present cases for feedback
  • Ability to apply consultation hours towards certification

Areas of Focus

  • Understanding theoretical foundations and the 8 phases of EMDR
  • Strategies for effective history taking and case conceptualization
  • Identifying appropriate targets for reprocessing
  • Polyvagal-informed resourcing for preparation
  • Moving from preparation to reprocessing confidence
  • The standard protocol and when to modify
  • Addressing common derailments during reprocessing
  • Integrating parts work and somatic based interventions in EMDR

What Youโ€™ll Gain

  • Increased confidence and clarity as you navigate all 8 phases of EMDR
  • A supportive, reflective community of peers
  • A deeper understanding of how the mind and body connect
  • A practical path to EMDR certification that takes the nervous system into account

Why This Matters

Consultation is where you turn what you’ve learned into real skills, develop your intuition, and build confidence. The House Within Model EMDR Consultation Series offers a supportive, structured way to grow as a clinician while respecting both your nervous system and your clients’ healing journeys.
